My Explorations of ADHD and Dopamine

My name is Ed and I have undiagnosed ADHD. As such, I am always looking for ways to increase my dopamine levels. So in this post I’m going to explore natural methods to raise my dopamine levels.

The first thing I did was google “ways to increase dopamine levels ADHD”. The first article that was listed was titled “Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD):The Role of Dopamine.”This article mainly discusses what ADHD is and the potential role dopamine plays in ADHD. However, in “the Takeaway” it provides several things to do to increase your dopamine levels.. They include:

From:”Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD):The Role of Dopamine…..

  • Try something new.
  • Make a list of small tasks and complete them.
  • Listen to music you enjoy.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Try meditation or yoga.

What I Do and Don’t Do to Raise My Dopamine

When I look at this list I see that I already do the last three items on the list on a regular basis. Very rarely does a day go by that I don’t listen to music. I also exercise daily. Additionally, I do yoga at least two or three times a week. I will say that while I previously meditated frequently lately I have not.

The first item on the list can be taken several ways. The first is to try something new to eat or try something new to do, I.e. something out of your comfort zone. My family always pointed out that the box of whatever I just bought said “New” on the front! And I still do that. Now I will say I should and will put that on my :”to do” list to try new foods for dinner, our maybe new recipes from the many cookbooks I have and have never used. LOL!

Now since I have very little spare time (we babysit our granddaughter almost everyday every week and I work part-time at Target one weekend day, I have very little time to do something out of my comfort zone. I did though yesterday try to use my daughter’s treadmill. Now there is something new for me to try!

Finally, the second thing to do to raise dopamine levels is to “Make a list of small tasks and complete them.”. The other day I did see a post on I think Instagram that someone wrote they had made a list of everything they needed to do all day and checked them off when they were completed.

That got me to thinking about how I used to use a bullet journal. I think that I got the most done around the house and felt good about it when I could list projects in my bullet journal and then check them off when I finished the project. So I think it’s time to start a bullet journal again!!

The Bottom Line

Based on the information provided by the post, “Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD):The Role of Dopamine Here’s what I’m going to do in order to naturally increase my dopamine levels . I’m going to:

  • Keep listening to music….incorporating maybe more New Age and Classical
  • Keep exercising regularly
  • keep doing yoga
  • Restart meditating
  • Restart my bullet journal

Now I just need to keep up and start doing! I’ll keep you updated! Additionally, I’m going to explore some more articles about neutral ways to raise dopamine levels. Any thoughts?
